eMobile, Ericsson launch HSPA+

3 Sep 2009

Japanese mobile network operator eMobile has launched its HSPA Evolution network in the country’s largest metropolitan cities, including Tokyo, Osaka, Yokohama and Nagoya, enabling peak data rates of 21Mbps. The deployment is part of a major expansion and upgrade agreement between Ericsson and eMobile, a unit of eAccess group. The cellco’s new mobile broadband services, launched on 24 July, are powered by HSPA Evolution, also known as HSPA+, supplied under an exclusive contract with Ericsson. The Swedish vendor is also the sole supplier of eMobile’s core network and systems integration services.

Commenting on the launch, Eric Gan, president & COO of eMobile, said: ‘Deploying the first HSPA Evolution network in Japan is an important milestone for eMobile. Ericsson’s HSPA Evolution technology provides us with the fastest, most advanced mobile broadband network in the country and gives our customers a true mobile broadband experience.’
