Vodafone boosts 3G coverage to 94%

1 Sep 2009

Vodafone Australia has announced that it has expanded its 3G network to hundreds of regional areas, including Kununurra in Western Australia, Port Douglas in Queensland and Devonport in Tasmania, bringing its coverage of the population up to 94%. The expanded 3G network will operate on both the 900MHz and 2100MHz spectrum, at a download speed of 3.6Mbps, Vodafone said, and to celebrate the launch the cellco has announced that it will offer free access to Facebook over its infrastructure until 31 October 2009. As part of the infrastructure improvements Vodafone has also revealed that its regional network will be upgraded with EDGE technology to complement the 3G expansion. Commenting on the launch, Nigel Dews, CEO of Vodafone Hutchison Australia (VHA), said; ‘Vodafone is committed to investing in its network to make state-of-the-art 3G services more accessible and affordable. Vodafone’s great value 3G services are now available to Australians living and working in regional cities and towns, as well as business travellers and holiday-makers who need to stay connected.’
