Nigerian CDMA operator Starcomms has launched a new promotion for the month of Ramadan, whereby subscribers can make on net calls for NGN1 (USD0.006) per minute. The offer is valid between the hours of 10pm and 6am, with no usage or recharge commitment. ‘This promotion is based on our philosophy of making communications affordable and providing unlimited freedom to the consumers,’ commented Tushar Maheshwari, COO of Starcomms. According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms database, Starcomms received a ten-year Unified Access Service (UAS) licence from the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) in August 2006, with the first cellular CDMA services following in February 2007 using the 1900MHz frequency band.
