Banglalink’s revenues up 29%, claims market share increase

Bangladesh’s second largest cellco by users, Banglalink GSM, owned by Egypt’s Orascom Telecom, has reported that its revenues increased by 29% year-on-year in the first half of 2009 to BDT11.83 billion (USD175 million), as its subscriber base increased by 17% to 11.04 million at the end of June, up from 9.45 million at mid-2008. The operator’s market share also increased to 23.7% at mid-2009, according to Orascom, compared to 21.6% last year, the report said. Banglalink’s monthly average revenue per user (ARPU) also showed a rise of 18% to BDT182 by the end of June, compared to BDT154 a year earlier.
