AKTEL hits ten million

Mobile operator Axiata Bangladesh (trading as AKTEL) has reached the benchmark of ten million GSM subscribers, reports bdnews24.com. AKTEL’s chief executive officer Jefri Ahmed Tambi said, ‘When AKTEL started its operations, it had just 150 employees and 20 base station towers. Now we have 1,500 employees and 5,000 base stations.’ AKTEL, a joint venture between Axiata of Malaysia and Japan’s NTT DoCoMo Japan, launched its operations in 1997 and today is the third largest mobile operator in Bangladesh by subscribers, in a field of six.
