6 Aug 2009

Japanese mobile operator eMobile, backed by the eAccess group, and China’s Huawei Technologies yesterday launched Japan’s first commercial high speed packet access evolution (HSPA+) network, offering mobile data speeds of up to 21.6Mbps. At launch the upgraded service will be available in Hokkaido, Sendai, Niigata, Hiroshima, Fukuoka and Nagasaki, the pair said. Commenting on the launch eMobile president and COO Eric Gan said: ‘Japan’s first commercial HSPA+ network will provide eMobile customers with the most advanced and sophisticated mobile broadband services in the country.’ As at 30 June 2009 the cellco had signed up more than 1.67 subscribers since launching the service two years ago.
