Digicel to launch residential WiMax within a year

10 Jul 2009

Irish-owned mobile operator Digicel could launch residential WiMAX services in Jamaica within a year, according to BNamericas citing CEO Colm Delves. The company has been offering WiMAX to corporate customers for the last three years using frequencies in the 3.5GHz band, and won spectrum in the 2.5GHz band two weeks ago. The plan is to now use that spectrum to extend the offering to the residential sector. ‘On the residential side, we are working through our business cases… I believe we would be in a position to launch in twelve months. Jamaica is a key focus for us,’ Delves said.
