Finnish mobile operator TeliaSonera Finland and hardware vendor Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN) has inked a deal that will see the latter deploy a 3G network operating in the 900MHz band. Under the terms of the contract NSN will provide a full W-CDMA/HSPA 900 radio network system, including its award-winning, energy-efficient Flexi base stations and high capacity RNC 2600 radio network controllers. The new infrastructure will be rolled out specifically to target rural regions where coverage is still sparse and TeliaSonera said it will help support fixed to mobile migration, as well as helping to reduce operational costs. NSN’s W-CDMA/HSPA 900 solution will enable us to extend 3G coverage to the more remote areas of the country in a cost-effective way, extending the latest mobile broadband services to a growing number of customers,’ said Esa Rautalinko, CEO of TeliaSonera Finland.
