Zain extends Globitel agreement

22 Jun 2009

Jordan-based equipment supplier Globitel has announced that Zain has extended its contract to provide and maintain advanced roaming solutions to all of Zain’s operations, including its African subsidiaries, which Zain is reportedly considering selling. Samer Halawa, president of Globitel said, ‘Zain Group has always been one of the leading mobile operator groups, it is our pleasure to have been selected as a supplier of roaming solutions to its subsidiaries. We really hope that this relationship will prosper to even higher levels in the near future.’

As reported by CommsUpdate on 12 June, French media conglomerate Vivendi has been linked with a USD12 billion bid for Celtel International, the African arm of Zain Group. Business Day reports that two other companies circling Celtel are Indian firms Bharti Airtel and Reliance Communications. However, their bids will only be considered by Zain if a deal with Vivendi is not settled.
