Intel joins forces with Imagine for WiMAX investment

22 Jun 2009

Microship manufacturer Intel is teaming up with Irish Broadband (Imagine Group), established by entrepreneur Sean Bolger, in a EUR100 million (USD139 million) investment to deploy a WiMAX network in the Republic. The new network is backed by five multinational corporations and Irish firms and is expected to go live ‘in the coming months’, delivering high speed internet access with speeds up to 30 times faster than those currently available to consumers. The EUR100 million fund forms part of a bigger financing plan for the national network, work on which will begin in Dublin and Kildare.
