Norway leads five countries in pushing DMB mobile TV

15 Jun 2009

A new multi-national partnership called the International DMB Advancement Group (IDAG) was founded last week by companies based in Norway, the UK, the Netherlands, Italy and Malta, with the aim of promoting mobile TV, radio and data services via DMB, DAB and DAB+ technologies. Last month the Norwegian Mobile TV Corporation (NMTV), a joint venture between Norway’s three largest broadcasters – the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation (NRK), TV 2 and Modern Times Group (MTG) – announced the successful launch of six free-to-air TV channels via DMB. The mobile service is available to compatible handset users or on MiniTV receivers in Greater Oslo. Meanwhile the Netherlands and Malta plan to launch DMB services later in 2009, whilst small-scale DMB tests are ongoing in the UK and Italy.
