GSM operators eager to access TOT 3G network

2 Jun 2009

Thai newspaper The Nation has received information from a source at TOT that all three of the country’s privately-owned GSM network operators – AIS, DTAC and True – have told the state-run telco that they are interested in providing retail 3G services over its planned nationwide UMTS network. A recent meeting saw the four parties begin to negotiate rental rates for a possible plan under which TOT would lease the private companies’ base station locations to install its 2100MHz 3G network equipment, the source added. TOT aims to start the 3G wholesale service this year after an initial rollout involving upgrading its GSM subsidiary Thai Mobile’s existing 1900MHz network.
