Ireland’s Minister for Communications Eamon Ryan has ruled out state ownership of former monopoly telecoms provider eircom. Speaking at the Telecommunications and Internet Federation’s annual charity ball, the Minister said that while Dublin attached significant importance to the telco, state ownership of eircom was not on the table. Mr Ryan went on to criticise what he termed eircom’s ‘short-term ownership model’, adding that he would welcome and support any investors looking to implement a long-term investment model for eircom.
