Further state approval for EMBARQ/CenturyTel merger

The Kansas City Business Review reports that state regulators in California, Oregon and Virginia have approved the proposed sale of EMBARQ to CenturyTel. The wireline and broadband providers own combined operations across 33 states and have now received approval for the merger from 31 of the corresponding state regulators. As previously reported by CommsUpdate, the USD11.6 billion deal was approved by company shareholders in January and is due to be completed in the second quarter of the year. The merged entity will serve around 7.7 million wireline customers and two million broadband subscribers.
