AUSPI disagrees with spectrum auction, levy plans

13 May 2009

Telecom Tiger is reporting that the Association of Unified Service Providers of India (AUSPI) will oppose proposals by a government panel to move to a revenue-generating auction model for the allocation of additional spectrum. The government panel, appointed by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), revealed the plans last month. AUSPI contends that any such move would not be legally tenable, arguing that it would conflict previous DoT policies and would be against the recommendation of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI). In addition AUSPI has said it plans to oppose recommendations by the panel to introduce a standardised charge as a levy for spectrum charge.
