ComReg seeks LLU price cut from eircom

11 May 2009

Ireland’s telecoms regulator ComReg is calling on former monopoly operator eircom to cut the price it can currently charge rival operators to access its network through local loop unbundling (LLU). The watchdog is proposing a reduction of more than 25% in the monthly rental fee, from EUR16.43 to EUR12.18 (USD22.39 to USD16.60). ‘ComReg believes that the successful implementation of these proposals will lead to greater competition and, ultimately, consumer benefits through increased choice and lower prices,’ said Chairman John Doherty. The regulator is inviting submissions on the issue before making its final decision.
