Claro enters wireline arena

Claro Peru, America Movil’s Peruvian cellco, has launched a pre-paid fixed line telephony service under the banner Fono Claro. The company plans to deploy around 158,000 fixed lines in 2009, rising to 225,000 by the end of April 2011. Fono Claro will initially be provided in ten regions, including the capital Lima, targetting remote areas around the largest cities. Rodrigo Arosemena, commercial director at America Movil Peru, said his plans to launch 3G services later this year, with DTT scheduled for launch in 2011.
