Vodafone seeks legal action against Telecom over new 3G network

1 May 2009

Vodafone New Zealand has confirmed that it is launching legal proceedings in the hope of blocking Telecom New Zealand’s launch of its new 3G ‘XT’ network, currently planned for 13 May. Vodafone claims that the new 850MHz W-CDMA network is causing interference for its 900MHz customers. Telecom has hit back with CEO Paul Reynolds claiming: ‘This is a piece of aggressive behaviour that betrays Vodafone’s insecurities about competition from Telecom’s new XT network.’
