Globacom, Dangote ink telecoms deal

24 Apr 2009

Nigeria’s second national operator (SNO) Globacom has announced it has signed an agreement with the Dangote Group, one of the country’s largest conglomerates, to become the latter’s sole telecoms provider. Under the deal Globacom will provide voice, data and video services to all of Dangote’s business facilities in Nigeria, as well as IP telephony configuration, direct access to Points of Presence (PoPs) in London and New York and vehicle tracking. The telco will also provide Dangote with free calls between 22,000 members of staff, calls at reduced rates to all networks and Glo’s Free Bulk SMS service. Globacom saw off rival bids from a number of unnamed telecoms companies to win the contract, no financial details have been disclosed.
