NTC warns unrest could derail 3G auction

Thailand’s National Telecommunication Commission (NTC) has warned that its plan to auction 3G licences to privately-owned mobile operators may be delayed from this year if political instability worsens in the country, reports Reuters. Prasert Apipunya, deputy secretary-general of the regulator, said that 3G licences should be issued by the fourth quarter if recent politically motivated unrest did not escalate. Prasert added that the NTC would choose a consultant in May to carry out a study, expected to take around three months, into the best way to proceed with the auction.
