VivaCell launches 3G/HSPA network

Armenian mobile operator VivaCell has announced the commercial launch of its third-generation (3G) network in Armenia, offering subscribers the chance to access mobile broadband services, make videocalls and enjoy higher quality voice calls. In a press release the company said its W-CDMA/HSPA network is currently available in the capital Yerevan, plus the cities of Gyumri and Vanadzor. Data tariffs for 3G/3.5G internet access remain the same as existing 2.5G services, and VivaCell is offering new products branded under the name of its Russian parent MTS, including the MTS Connect USB modem and an MTS Connect monthly plan (including internet tariff and bundled SMS messages). VivaCell has also launched a new mobile portal ( In January MTS selected Huawei Technologies of China to supply a 3G network for its Armenian unit, which was allocated spectrum in October 2007, along with ArmenTel (Beeline), which has also made public its intention to launch 3G services in 2009.
