Portugal Telecom claims first quarter growth

CEO of Portugal Telecom, Zeinal Bava, has announced that operating revenues grew in the first quarter of 2009 in line with results for the fourth quarter of 2008, Reuters reports. At an industry event Bava stated that, ‘In the first quarter we confirmed the trend of the fourth quarter in fixed lines and in mobile too.’ Portugal Telecom, the country’s leading fixed line operator, posted consolidated operating revenues of EUR1.7 billion (USD2.22 billion) in the fourth quarter of 2008. Fixed line revenues grew 2% to EUR495.1 million; the company also saw growth in the mobile and broadband sectors. The company is scheduled to release its first quarter 2009 results on 7 May.
