The Czech association of cable and telecommunications networks operators (APKT), alongside Czech radio broadcaster and telecoms operator CRa, and alternative operators Volny and GTS Novera, have declared unanimous support for an amendment to the country’s Act on Electronic Communications (127/2005 Coll.) regarding access and interconnection. The amendment looks to redress an imbalance in the regulation of access to fixed and mobile networks, which the groups claim has been hindering competition in the market. The APKT and the telcos claim incumbent cellular operators had fought ‘tooth and claw’ to prevent the wholesale market being opened up to mobile virtual network operators (MVNOs), but the law change will ultimately increase competition and improve conditions for consumers.
