3 Apr 2009

DSTelecom has announced plans to invest EUR400 million (USD533.31 million) over five years in the construction of an open access fibre-optic network, Portuguese newspaper Diario de Noticias reports. The network, which will cover more than 50 municipalities, is being deployed in partnership with the state, as part of the government’s commitment to the development of next generation networks. Portugal Telecom, Zon, Sonaecom and Oni-Communications are also deploying networks as part of the same initiative. DSTelecom describes itself as an ‘operator of operators’, supplying wholesale internet connections to ISPs, by providing open access networks.
