Glo Mobile says EPA is slowing its network rollout

26 Mar 2009

Mobile start-up Globacom Limited, which owns the Glo Mobile brand in Ghana, says the country’s Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), is hampering its rollout programme by holding up its requests for permits to erect masts. Local news portal Modern Ghana quotes Glo Mobile’s Head of Technical-Rollout Mr Idowu Olumodeji as saying the company has been forced to push back its launch deadline several times already because the EPA had not issued the requisite permits. Olumodeji went on the say that Glo had submitted no fewer than 500 applications for permits, covering most of the regional capitals, but to date has not been issued with a single permit.
