Portugal Telecom invests in connection to Western Africa

18 Mar 2009

Portugal Telecom will invest USD25 million in a new undersea cable system that will improve links between Portugal and West Africa. The project will also be funded by Cape Verde Telecom, which will also invest USD25 million. The cable will stretch along the coast of West Africa and is scheduled to be operational by 2011. The link will guarantee connections to some of Portugal Telecom’s main operations in Africa, as well as internet connectivity with its main hub in London. Portugal Telecom has a 40% interest in Cape Verde Telecom.
