Work begins on Tanzania’s Seacom connection

19 Feb 2009

Work has begun on a project to connect Tanzania’s telecoms networks with international broadband networks via a USD600 million undersea cable, reports local newspaper The Citizen. An official for the private company implementing the project, Seacom Company, said that the undersea fibre-optic cable had been laid down in the Indian Ocean in Dar es Salaam. The project is expected to lower telecoms costs by 95% and is due to be completed by June of this year.
