Shaw launches Nitro cable service based on DOCSIS 3.0

Shaw Communications has launched a new high speed cable internet service, Nitro, based on a recent deployment of DOCSIS 3.0 technology. The service, offering download speeds of up to 25Mbps, has been rolled out in Saskatoon, and will be extended to other markets in the coming months. Existing service Shaw High Speed, currently offering 5Mbps downloads, will also be improved to 7.5Mbps with PowerBoost, a feature that provides a five to 20-second burst of speed; and High-Speed Xtreme-I, currently offered at 10Mbps, will also be upgraded to 15Mbps with PowerBoost. Nitro costs CAD101.95 (USD80.80) per month with a 150GB data volume limit, compared to Xtreme-I which costs CAD50.95 per month with a 100GB monthly cap.
