MTC grants public telephony concession to Telemundo Internacional

16 Jan 2009

According to local news source La Republica, Peru’s Ministry of Transport & Communication (MTC) has granted a 20-year concession for the provision of public telephony services to Telemundo Internacional EIRL. Telemundo – which is unrelated to the US-based broadcaster – is expected to roll out a fibre-optic cable network initially, although it has not revealed a timeframe or location for deployment. The new operator has been given 60 days to sign the contract, having previously been offered a concession in April 2008. The original offer was postponed after Telemundo failed to sign the documentation within the stipulated time.
