Dutch cable MSO Ziggo, formed as a result of the merger of former cablecos @HOME, Casema and Multikabel, has placed a large initial order for ARRIS Group’s Touchstone TM702 series, DOCSIS 3.0 Embedded Multimedia Terminal Adapters (E-MTAs) as it prepares to take the fight to KPN in the domestic fibre-optic market. Ziggo will use the ARRIS-supplied CPE devices to market much faster internet speeds along with carrier-grade VoIP services to the top tier of its more than three million residential and business users. Commenting on the contract award, Ziggo CTO Paul Hendriks said: ‘In the highly-competitive Northern European market, we need to offer our subscribers the highest quality internet and voice experience possible … ARRIS is at the forefront of technological innovation in DOCSIS head end and CPE equipment and we feel confident that they will help us offer our customers a compelling and extremely competitive DOCSIS 3.0 solution.’
