SMA calls for interest in WiMAX licences

6 Jan 2009

Jamaica’s Spectrum Management Authority (SMA) has invited companies to express interest in receiving documents outlining pre-qualification requirements for participation in a forthcoming auction of 2.5GHz frequencies, a spokesperson at the SMA confirmed to BNamericas. Interested parties have until 19 January to contact the regulator, after which it will establish an auction timetable. Digicel Jamaica, Cable & Wireless Jamaica (LIME) and America Movil’s Claro are reported to be interested in winning a WiMAX concession; some 125MHz of frequencies have been allocated for wireless broadband services.
