BigAir extends WiMAX reach to Perth

18 Dec 2008

iTWire is reporting that Australian wireless broadband provider BigAir has extended its fixed WiMAX network to Perth. BigAir has installed a single base station in the central business district (CBD), which the operator claims has a 30km radius. The operator already had infrastructure in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane, and it has announced plans for further expansion. BigAir says it is actively looking for new channel partnerships with existing IT resellers and ISPs.

BigAir is presently fending off a hostile takeover bid from Clever Communications, a rival WiMAX network operator. Clever announced on 16 December that its offer for BigAir shares was unconditional, at which time it owned 13.5% equity in BigAir.
