3G licensing by March, confirms BTRC

The chairman of the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) said yesterday that the watchdog plans to issue 3G licences in the 2100MHz spectrum band by March 2009, reports Reuters. ‘The 3G licences will be issued by March next year…the licences would be awarded through an open auction,’ said Manzurul Alam, adding that the concessions would expand broadband services which would, amongst other things, enable people to get easy access to information on health, education, job opportunities and agriculture.
