Telmex gets national concession

28 Nov 2008

Peru’s transport and communications ministry (MTC) has expanded Telmex Peru’s concession to cover the entire country writes BNamericas citing state news service Andina. The concession is for the provision of fixed and public telephony. Telmex had a 20-year concession to provide services in several departments, including Arequipa, La Libertad, Tacna, Cuzco, Lambayeque, Piura, Junin, Ica, Cajamarca, Ancash and Loreto. The company also offers services in capital Lima and the city of Callao. In July, Telmex asked MTC to expand the concession to the departments where the telco had no concession to provide telecoms services, Andina said. In turn, MTC asked the operator to define investment programs in the new areas of operation.
