Mena Telecom launches nationwide WiMAX network

24 Nov 2008

Bahraini alternative telco Mena Telecom has launched commercial WiMAX-based wireless broadband voice and data services nationwide. The operator, a subsidiary of Kuwait Finance House, partnered Motorola to build a network based on WiMAX 802.16e (mobile-ready) technology, capable of offering broadband internet connection speeds of up to 8Mbps. New packages Mena Home and Mena Business offer internet access plus telephony to residential and enterprise customers respectively, including international calls that the company claims are up to 30% cheaper than existing operators. WiMAX connections are available via a plug and play device that does not require any installation or setup.
