Kalimat Telecom launches WiMAX network

12 Nov 2008

Kalimat Telecom has launched Iraq’s first WiMAX network in Baghdad, reports WiMAX.com. The operator – having inked a deal with Redline Communications for the provision of a WiMAX network covering 28 million people – says the project will cost in the region of USD500 million. ‘We are proud to announce the launch and make it happen despite the prevailing situation,’ said Wilson Varghese, Kalimat Telecom CEO and President. ‘We are targeting customers like large commercial facilities, residential areas and government institutions. As you know many investors do not want to go to Iraq, but we managed to invest … and we are slowly getting there.’ Iraq’s Communication and Media Commission awarded Kalimat Telecom a 10-year concession in September 2006.
