Incumbent fixed line carrier Telefonica del Peru posted a net profit of PEN41.4 million (USD13 million) in the third quarter of 2008, down 29.5% from PEN58.7 million recorded in the same quarter last year. The company generated operating revenues of PEN945 million during the three months ended 30 September 2008, down 5.1% compared to the same period last year. Revenues from local fixed line telephony slipped 9.3% to PEN352 million in the quarter, while public and rural telephony revenues slumped 32% to PEN105million. Sales of internet service climbed 18.3% to PEN207 million, on the back of booming broadband take-up: high speed internet totalled 668,951 at the end of September, up from 555,423 at the same time last year.
