The Bulgarian telecoms regulator, the Communications Regulation Commission (CRC), has set dates for the tender of a fourth and fifth mobile network operator licence, writes daily newspaper Dnevnik citing chairperson Vesselin Bozhkov. The first auction will take place on 10 December, with the second following exactly a week later. Tender papers will be available for purchase until 24 November. Bozhkov was quoted as saying that two or three companies had already expressed an interest in the tender, but declined to name them until they had bought documents. ‘I am afraid the ongoing financial crisis will generate weaker interest because a licence requires fresh cash, but then only serious players will show up,’ he said. Liechtenstein-registered Telco AG, which was the only bidder at the previous – unsuccessful – auction, is reported to be interested again, as is Max Telecom. This will be the regulator’s second attempt at handing out the unused wireless spectrum; in July the tender was cancelled after it attracted only a single bid with incomplete paperwork.
