Movilmax in 300 base station WiMAX expansion

21 Oct 2008

Venezuelan WiMAX operator Movilmax plans to expand its coverage beyond Caracas with 300 new base stations in the next few months, its CEO Dick Abanto told BNamericas. It currently operates 64 WiMAX base stations in the capital, providing wireless broadband services to approximately 5,000 residential users and 160 corporate clients, and has spent around USD12 million on its network. Abanto said that Movilmax, owned by Omnivision, is in negotiations with vendors including Samsung, Telsima, Huawei, ZTE, Nokia and Posdata with the aim of signing a supply agreement by year-end or in the first quarter of 2009.
