ATG inks WiMAX deal with SR Telecom

Canada-based Airtel Telecom Group (ATG), working in a joint venture with Cameroon Telecom, has signed a deal with equipment vendor SR Telecom for the provision of WiMAX infrastructure. The deal is part of a deployment plan of 100 base stations throughout Cameroon. Rollout – due to begin in December 2008 – will be completed by July 2009, and by the end of that year 20% of the population will be covered by the WiMAX network. No financial details were disclosed.
