eircom picks Alcatel-Lucent for all-IP network upgrade

30 Sep 2008

Alcatel-Lucent has been selected by Ireland’s former monopoly fixed line operator eircom to supply a seamless next generation network as part of the telco’s migration to all-IP infrastructure. Alca-Lu will supply an end-to-end Triple Play Service Delivery Architecture (TPSDA) multiservice IP network infrastructure solution, enabling the telco to offer a range of advanced triple-play services such as IPTV and converged communications services to residential and business customers. As a result of the deal, Alca-Lu says eircom will also be able to improve its time to market while reducing its operational expenses through the simplification and optimisation of the new converged infrastructure. The first phase of the project, covering major nodes in the capital Dublin, is expected to be operational by the end of this year.
