SNR to free WiMAX spectrum

16 Sep 2008

Romania’s National Radiocommunications Company (SNR) is set to launch a EUR19.39 million (USD27.6 million) tender next month for equipment which will allow it to transfer radio and TV broadcasts away from the 3.6GHz-3.76GHz band. The transfer will free up the 3.6GHz band for future WiMAX wireless broadband networks. SNR has been guaranteed one of the three WiMAX licences on offer in return for freeing the spectrum; the other two licences will be auctioned by the government with the fee set at EUR7.5 million.
