Huawei deploys HLR for Telenor Pakistan

2 Sep 2008

Network solutions provider Huawei has announced that it has deployed the world’s largest next generation Home Location Register (HLR) solution for Telenor Pakistan. The next generation HLR will serve 40 million subscribers, and is quoted as offering Telenor potential operating cost reductions of up to 60%. Huawei’s HLR solution is fully distributed and has been deployed in the country’s three major cities of Islamabad, Karachi and Lahore.

In related news, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) claims it has blocked up to 7.1 million unverified SIM cards that were obtained before 1 May 2008, and the regulator is currently understood to be in the process of verifying all SIMs obtained between May and August 2008, with a report expected to be presented by the end of September.
