Hong Kong-based cellco SmarTone-Vodafone has reported its results for its financial year ended 30 June 2008, in which its mobile service revenues increased by 9% year-on-year to HKD3.433 billion (USD440 million). EBITDA for the twelve months rose by 16% to HKD1.088 billion and profit attributable to equity holders jumped by 75% to HKD276 million. Data revenue contributed 23.2% to overall mobile service turnover, up from 18.5% in fiscal 2007, with growth predominantly driven by the increasing adoption of multimedia services, which accounted for two-thirds of total data revenue. Blended monthly ARPU averaged for the twelve-month period increased by 5% to HKD237 and post-paid ARPU rose by 9% to HKD284. The post-paid churn rate reduced from 2.3% in June 2007 to 1.7% in June 2008. SmarTone’s total mobile customer base stood at 1.118 million at end-June 2008, up from 1.077 million a year earlier, with the 3G user base representing 47% of post-paid subscribers (up from 30%).
