BNamericas writes that Chinese equipment vendor Huawei Technologies is the sole bidder for a contract to supply 3G equipment to Costa Rican telco ICE. According to local press reports, Huawei was the only company to present a formal offer to install a 3G/3.5G network with a capacity for 1.5 million lines, 554 base stations, 500,000 handsets and a pre-paid billing platform. Huawei bid USD583 million for the contract, more than double ICE’s original target price of USD225 million. It is not known whether ICE has accepted Huawei’s offer.
