MTN launches fixed line services

4 Aug 2008

MTN has launched fixed line services, dubbed ‘MTN HyConnect’, over a fibre-optic network in the city of Ibadan, reports local newspaper Sunday Tribune. According to a statement from MTN, the voice telephony service is bundled with internet access at downlink speeds of between 64kbps and 2Mbps. The launch of MTN HyConnect makes the cellco the first GSM operator to roll out fixed lines since the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) issued unified licences to major operators in 2006.
