Reltel Wireless has announced that it is changing its name to ZOOM Mobile. The company says the change is motivated by a need to change ‘our market perception from a fixed-wireless to a national mobile operator’. Reltel, traditionally a fixed-wireless provider, was given the green light to launch fully wireless services in July 2007 following the award of a unified access licence (UAS). It recently announced that it had 1.5 million subscribers. In separate but related news, the company plans to list on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) as soon as the necessary conditions have been finalised.
