ComReg extends GSM liberalisation consultation to end-September

1 Aug 2008

Ireland’s telecoms industry regulator ComReg has extended the consultation phase on the potential liberalisation of the country’s GSM frequency bands until 30 September, ElectricNewsNet reports. The watchdog is exploring options for relaxing restrictions on the technology and services that can be provided in the GSM bands – 900MHz and 1800MHz – and is considering how new licences should be awarded following the expiry of the current concessions. Details of the consultation, including details on the expiry of the current operating licences and the possibility of making more spectrum available, are available on ComReg’s website.
