Sprint leaves NGMN

18 Jul 2008

A Sprint spokesperson confirmed the US cellco has dropped out of the Next Generation Mobile Networks (NGMN) Alliance because the group endorsed Long Term Evolution (LTE) technology for 4G networks saying, ‘Sprint was disappointed that NGMN shifted from its original technology neutral stance’. Sprint is currently developing a WiMAX network, a rival technology to LTE, and hopes to launch in Baltimore this September. Sprint was one of the founding members of the NGMN in 2006.
