Movistar plans 3G launch for year end

15 Jul 2008

Peruvian mobile telephony operator Movistar expects to launch 3G services by the end of the year, writes BNamericas citing local newspaper Gestion. According to the company’s regulatory affairs director Elizabeth Galdo: ‘Up to now we have been testing the service and decided to postpone the launch due to the high cost of the devices’. According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms database, Movistar Peru had 8.7 million customers at the end of March, giving it a 57.1% market share. 90% of its customer base is pre-paid, with 1Q08 blended ARPU standing at USD6.4. Average minutes of use (MoU) in the same period was 97.3.
